3 Day Private Silk Road Tour of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes

The Mogao Grottoes are simply astonishing, centuries of Buddhist cave art preserved in the desert. Having a private guide who could explain the Silk Road context as we went between caves made all the difference. Three days in Dunhuang was just right.

Came mainly for the Mogao caves and they exceeded every expectation. The murals are breathtaking. Our guide also worked in the Crescent Lake and singing sand dunes, so we got both the ancient art and the dramatic desert landscape. A real Silk Road experience.

Dunhuang is remote but absolutely worth the journey. The grottoes left me emotional, you cannot photograph inside so you just absorb it. Private guiding meant we could linger. Riding camels on the dunes at sunset capped off three perfect days.

A bucket-list trip. The Mogao Grottoes are the main event and they're unforgettable. The private format was great because the cave assignments can be a bit chaotic with crowds, and our guide navigated it all for us. Loved the desert scenery too.
