Eight days overland from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp was the adventure of my life. Watching sunrise hit the north face of Everest at 5,200m, completely clear, is something I'll never forget. The road there via Yamdrok Lake's turquoise water and Shigatse's monastery, then the high passes near Tingri, was spectacular every single day. Guide managed altitude carefully and all permits were ready.
An epic Tibet overland. The build-up through Lhasa, the holy Yamdrok Lake, Shigatse and Tingri prepared us beautifully for EBC. Standing before the world's highest mountain was emotional. The return along the Friendship Highway had jaw-dropping views too. Demanding but unforgettable, and the altitude was handled responsibly.
Everest at sunrise from the north base camp made the whole eight days worth it. Yamdrok Lake on the way out is the bluest water I've ever seen. Shigatse's Tashilhunpo monastery was a cultural highlight before the mountains took over. Our guide and driver were superb on the long roads.
Bucket-list trip. EBC at 5,200m is cold and the altitude is real, but the sight of Everest is unmatched. The drive via Yamdrok and Shigatse breaks it up nicely. Some very long days in the vehicle, but the scenery never stopped. Permits all sorted in advance.
From Lhasa to Everest and back via the Friendship Highway, eight days of constant wonder. Sunrise on the highest peak on earth, prayer flags snapping in the wind, was profound. The guide's pacing for acclimatisation was excellent. One of the great journeys.
