Looking back, what I remember is the change from one stop to the next: different room, different smell, different crowd. S Ancient Town was only one part of it.
The unglamorous part: the Lijiang meeting point was simple to find, and the food stops came at a sensible pace. There was time to ask what we were eating rather than just moving to the next plate.
Before you go, come hungry in Lijiang and say clearly what you cannot eat. There was enough variety that skipping one item did not make the experience feel smaller. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
