Looking back, the useful moment came when the host corrected one small technique at the cooking session in Chengdu. That is the part I tried again after getting home.
The unglamorous part: the useful part in Chengdu was having someone explain how to order the same dishes later. I left with names in my phone, not just photos. For 4 hours around Chengdu, the pace felt about right.
Before you go, come hungry in Chengdu and say clearly what you cannot eat. There was enough variety that skipping one item did not make the experience feel smaller. The time around the cooking session was not the part I would cut.
