Looking back, by dinner we were still comparing notes about Group Day in Suzhou and Zhouzhuang from Shanghai. That is usually how I judge whether a tour was worth doing.
The unglamorous part: pickup, tickets and the order of stops were handled without fuss. That sounds ordinary, but it is exactly what you want on a full sightseeing day. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
One thing I learned: lunch landed later than I expected, so a small snack was useful. I was happier not cutting the time at Group Day in Suzhou and Zhouzhuang from Shanghai.
Not every minute was engineered into a “moment.” There was time for coffee, questions and simply watching Shanghai and Suzhou go by.
Honestly, I would change my shoes, not the itinerary. For 10 hours around Shanghai and Suzhou, the pace felt about right.
