My camera roll says Day to Suzhou and Zhouzhuang or Tongli from Shanghai was the big moment. My actual favourite was Shanghai and Suzhou; it felt less obvious and more personal.
What helped was simple: our guide read the pace well. We got the background when it helped, then space to explore instead of a running lecture. My only advice is not to shorten the time at Day to Suzhou and Zhouzhuang or Tongli from Shanghai.
Looking back, I would check the weather and dress in layers. We moved between the vehicle, open spaces and indoor sites often enough to notice the difference. I would keep the Shanghai and Suzhou outline as it was.
Looking back, I tend to switch off when tours become a stream of dates. Here, the stories around Shanghai and Suzhou gave me enough to hold on to without overloading the day.
Honestly, a full 10 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose.
