One detail from the day: this was less about eating a huge meal than paying attention to several small ones. That rhythm worked for 3 hours.
The Xi'an and Guilin meeting point was simple to find, and the food stops came at a sensible pace. There was time to ask what we were eating rather than just moving to the next plate.
A practical note: one Xi'an and Guilin dish was outside my comfort zone, which was half the reason I booked. Asking how locals eat it made the stop much more interesting.
In hindsight, I liked this more a day later, when I looked back through my photos and realised how different Xi'an and Guilin and the Yangshuo countryside had felt.
