Overview

Trek across ten thousand acres of rolling alpine meadows to the 1,920-metre Golden Summit of Wugong Mountain, sleeping mountainside under a sea of stars.

About This Tour

Wugong Mountain in Jiangxi is famous across China for its surreal high-altitude grasslands, an endless ocean of green meadow draped over rounded peaks above 1,900 metres, often called the rooftop of eastern China. This 2-day private trek follows a well-maintained national hiking trail from Dongjiang Village up through forests and streams onto the open ridgeline, where the grassland rolls to the horizon. You overnight in a simple mountain guesthouse, gathering around the fire for a travelers' sharing circle and, on clear nights, photographing the Milky Way arcing over the meadows. The next morning you climb to the 1,920-metre Golden Summit for panoramic views before descending easy stone steps. With your own English-speaking guide and private transfers from the rail station, this trip suits reasonably fit travelers who want an authentic Chinese mountain experience and dramatic scenery without technical difficulty. Late spring through autumn is the best window. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: late April to October; grasslands are greenest in summer, golden in autumn • Fitness level: moderate; expect 4 to 5 hours of walking each day with sustained uphill on day one • Altitude: summit 1,920 m; weather changes quickly, bring warm and waterproof layers even in summer • Mountain guesthouse is basic; bring a headlamp and personal toiletries
